Desmond "DJ" Raye Whisonant, 17 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 21, 2020. DJ was born in Winston-Salem, NC to Adrianna E. Blackwell of Winston-Salem, and Desmond J. Whisonant of Mayodan, NC. DJ was a Junior at Dalton McMichael High School in Mayodan, NC. He was extremely outgoing, and never met a stranger, and always found a way to make you laugh. DJ was athletic, highly intelligent, clever, and sharp-witted. He was selfless, and often put others before himself. DJ is loved and will be missed by all that knew him and those he encountered.In addition to his parents, DJ's loving memories will always be cherished by his five sisters: Briana M. Hairston, Trinity R. Whisonant, Z'quriah L. Blackwell, Aaliyah D. Graham, all of Winston-Salem, and Hope A. Blackwell of Wilkesboro, NC. One brother Devora D. Dillworth, also of Winston-Salem, NC. His grandmother, Brenda Thompson, of Winston-Salem. Several aunts including Tammie Pulley, of Gardner, NC, Nastasha Lownes, Nastara Robinson, and Jada Robinson, all of Winston-Salem. Three uncles: Frederick Thompson, Floyd Thompson, Jr., and Medgar Thompson, all of Winston-Salem, NC. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A public viewing will be held Friday, November 27, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. A private services will be held Saturday, November 28, 2020.
