Dorothy Ann Carethers, 79, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away on June 1, 2024. She was born on April 13, 1945, to the late Earl. B. Posey and Rosa Posey. Known to most of her friends as "Dot" and family as "Sister".
She graduated from Atkins High School in 1963 and Winston-Salem State College in 1967 with BS in Elementary Education. She worked as a teacher, seamstress and various other positions over her life. She spent many years serving at New Bethel Baptist church as a Sunday School secretary, 4-H leader, and Ladies Aid member.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Rufus Posey, Rudolph Posey, Charlie Gus Posey, and Earl B. Posey Jr. She is survived by her son, Michael Tyrone Carethers, her brothers, Earnest Paul Posey, Robert James Posey, and John Lewis Posey (Jacquelyn), and her sister, Rosa Lee Posey. Funeral Services will be held Thursday June 6, 2024, at 11:00am from New Bethel Baptist Church and interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens, the family will receive friends at 10:30am. The remains maybe viewed Thursday at the church beginning at 9:30am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
