Harvey Lee Smoot (December 16, 1942-July 18, 2024) Harvey Lee Smoot, 81 passed away on July 18, 2024, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Harvey was born on December 16, 1942, in Davie County, North Carolina to Wade G. Smoot, Sr and Grace Gill Smoot. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, where he was part of the Senior Choir. He graduated from Dunbar High School in Lexington, NC and afterwards attended 4th and Cherry Barber School. After receiving his Barber's License, he worked many years at Community Barbershop on Cherry Street in Winston-Salem, purchasing the shop in 1983. He later relocated to Northwest Boulevard and changed the name to Civilized Barbershop. Harvey was well-known in the community and was affectionately referred to as "Smoot." He had a passion for barbering and did so for more than 50 years, until retiring in 2017.
Harvey was a loving father, grandfather, uncle and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Wade G. Smoot, Jr and a sister, Eleanor S. Fuller. Harvey leaves to cherish his memory his daughters: Monique S. Harris, Sandra D. Hines (Maurice) and Tangee S. Williams; three grandsons: Pierre Harris, Jordan Hines and Jazzman Hines; a great-granddaughter: Quinn Hines; four sisters: Helen Williams (Ben) of Winston-Salem, Berline Thomas of Lexington, Marjorie Smoot and Pamela Smoot of Mocksville; four brothers: Leo Smoot and Frank Smoot of Winston-Salem, Kenneth Smoot (Judy) of Lexington and Larry Smoot (Corrine) of Arcadia; a devoted niece, Crystal Roberson (Ernest) of Rocky
Mount; devoted nephew, Darryl Smoot of Mocksville and a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. A public viewing will take at Douthit Funeral Home (Winston-Salem) on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm, followed by family visitation 5:00 pm-6:00 pm. His celebration of Life will take place on Thursday July 25, 2024, at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church commencing at 12:00 pm. The funeral will be followed by a graveside burial at Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
