Mr. John Emmanuel Carethers, known by most as Shug, was born November 2, 1978 in Winston-Salem, NC and left his earthly life for his heavenly life on April 9, 2022.
John (Shug) attended Winston-Salem, Forsyth County Schools. He worked for several years as the kitchen manager for the Full Moon Oyster Bar.
He had a deep devotion to and love for his family, which was his greatest quality. Shug was always a beacon of light and full of life. He never had a harsh word to say and always brought joy and laughter with him. If Shug was there you knew that your day was about to get better. Shug was known to bring a bright smile to the faces of everyone that he met. John(Shug) was loved by many and will be deeply missed. He was a member of New Trinity Baptist Church.
John (Shug) is survived by his parents Harry and Mae Carethers, one brother and Best friend Tyrone Carethers. One daughter Skye Scott and long time companion Leslie Scott of the home. He had a host of nieces and nephews, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind his work family and a host of friend. A public viewing will be held Friday April 15, 2022 from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 11:00am from St. Matthew Apostil Church. The family will receive friends at 10:30am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
