Mrs. Louise Askew's Obituary

Louise Mezapher Askew was born in Bertie County, North Carolina, to Albert Askew and Lillie Mae Williford Askew on January 9, 1928. She departed this life on September 1, 2020.

At the age of twelve, Ms. Askew moved to Penns Grove, New Jersey where she resided with her Aunt, Ella Watson. She finished school there, married the late Bernard Heppinstall, and one daughter, Doris B. Heppinstall, was born to this union. Later, at an early age, she moved to Williamston, NC where she was employed by Home Laundry for over 20 years, and gave birth to a second daughter, Ola Mae Askew. Ms. Askew was then employed at Penn Elastic Co. in Jamesville, NC, where she retired. She had a joyful personality and was loved by many. As the years progressed, she moved to Winston-Salem, NC to reside with her daughter, Ola Askew Brown.

Ms. Askew was a long-time, active member of Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church in Williamston, NC. Upon moving to Winston-Salem, NC, she remained in touch with her Pastor and church family at Cornerstone.

Ms. Askew was a woman of wisdom. She loved her family and was faithfully supportive of several nonprofit groups. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Askew, Sr. and her mother, Lillie Mae Askew; three sisters, Ella Mae Askew, Louvenia Brown, and Roberta Askew; one brother, Albert Askew, Jr.; one niece, Rosa Lee Bailey; and one nephew, Gregory A. Askew.

Ms. Askew leaves to cherish her loving memory: two daughters, Ola M. Askew Brown of Winston-Salem, NC; Rev. Doris B. Bennett and Son-in-Law, Rev. Samuel Bennett of Rocky Mount, NC; 13 grandchildren, Oscar L. Whitfield, Jr., Lisa (Whitfield) Ross, Keturah Whitfield, Miriam Whitfield, Christopher Whitfield, Ronald E. Brown, Jr., Gregory Whitfield, Shierina A. (Brown) Fareed, Deborah A. (Whitfield) Ross, Arnold Whitfield, Michael R. Whitfield, Angela Whitfield, and Brandon E. Askew-Sims; 27 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; 2 nieces, Flora Stone and Cheryl Amos of Illinois, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friend. A public viewing will take place Wednesday, September 9, 2020 from 2pm until 5pm at Douthit's. A private service will be held Thursday, September 10, 2020. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
