Obituary

Mariam "Mimi" was born on February 10, 2004 in Winston Salem, NC. Mimi attended Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and was a recent graduate of the class of 2022 from Reynolds high school. She was a natural learner and maintained honor roll status for several years. She enjoyed singing, dancing, providing comedic relief, and making others feel loved and encouraged, and she was a natural orator. When she spoke, people listened. She was a life-long member of Macedonia Worship Center where she often led songs on the choir where she was the President of the choir for several years, danced on the praise dance team, was a youth Sunday school member, and was an active member of the Music and Arts and Youth ministry. Mimi loved her church and church family.

Mimi had several hidden talents; she enjoyed playing golf where she was mentored and encouraged by Mr. Charles Paul whom, along with his wife, she respected and loved dearly. She was an avid cook and took pride in culinary arts which she studied at the Career Center and was Serv-Safe certified. Mimi lovedworking behind the scenes with the North Carolina Black Repertory Company where she was an unspoken understudy for everyone's part as she knew every song and each dance choreography for every production, especially Black Nativity. Mimi was a member of the Ken Carlson Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club where she was a Junior Counselor, was a finalist for the Youth of the Year award, was a volunteer with several local community agencies, participated in the Career Skills program, and had the honor of being hand-chosen to attend the Chris Paul Club 61 program in California.

Mimi was employed most recently by Piedmont Home Health as a Caregiver. She was also employed by Journey's, Urban Air, The Urban League's Summer Youth Employment program, the Northside Bowling Alley, Cutco- where she bombarded us all with her presentations and had us spend unnecessary monies on knives.

Mimi walked as a leader and had a giving and caring spirit which mimicked her tall stature. She was always there to greet others with a warm and welcoming smile and embrace. If you were close to her, you knew how infectious her smile was and how her positive energy could light up a room. Mimi's giving spirit carried over in her desires to donate a kidney to her grandmother and although she was unable to fulfil that wish, she will continue to live on with the family's decision to help others through donor services.

Mimi leaves to cherish and continue her memories, her mother- Zakiyyah Niang (of the home), father figure- Bernard Pate, father- Malick Niang (of West Africa), siblings- Hassan Niang, Johann Pate, Morrisa Pate, Idrissa Bailey-Niang, Daniel Seawell, Cassandra Campbell, Derick Pate. She also leaves behind her Granna- Carlotta Fleming, grandfather- Norris Ridguard (Linda, both of Canada), uncles- Andrew Fleming Jr. and Ali Fleming, her great uncle- Ronnie Samuels (Deania), her special friend- Tamara Mitchell, and many loving aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
