Odell Tillery, age 79 of Winston-Salem, NC peacefully passed away on April 23, 2023 at Trellis Supportive Care in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born on July 4, 1943, in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Jounest Tillery and Annie Lyons Tillery. He was proceeded in death by a son, Odell Renard (Rennie) Tillery and siblings Margaret Williams, Lillian Davis, Willie Tillery, Douglas Tillery, Hazel Tillery, Linda Tillery, Eserick Tillery and James Tillery.
He leaves to cherish his wife of 48 years, Barbara Joyce Tillery, a sister Mary Tillery Pauling, four children Angelique Tillery Moody, Tanya Tillery Douthit, Delray Washington, Jonathan Tillery and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Odell graduated from Carver High School (Class of 1962) and was the treasurer of Carver class of 1962 Alumni Association. He attended Winston-Salem State University where he played the sport he loved, FOOTBALL, and was part of the first championship team at Carver high school. Odell retired from the State of North Carolina in the Highway and Roads division. He was a loyal and faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC where he worked in the following ministries: Layman's league, Ujima building committee, mass choir, and men's choir. Odell was also an active member of Prince Hall Masonic Ionic Lodge #72 before becoming ill. He was very passionate about Carver high school and Winston-Salem State University. A public viewing will be held Friday April 28, 2023, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be Saturday April 29, 2023, at 4pm from Emmauel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at 3:30pm. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
