A limb has fallen from the family tree that says grieve not for me remember the best times, and laughter, the song the good life I lived while I was strong.
Theresa Dianna Coles was born to the late Calvin Spruill and Lina R. Spruill in Kings Co. New York on June 15, 1958. After her birth parents transitioned, she grew up in Pantego, North Carolina, with her adopted parents the late George Robert Boyd and Lucille Fluker. A loving wife, mother, aunt, and friend, she made her ascension quietly on August 25, 2022, surrounded by those who loved her dearly. We mourn the loss, celebrate the life and rejoice her resurrection.
She attended and graduated from the public schools of Beaufort County, North Carolina and was a member of Antioch Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Theresa furthered her studies and attended Winston Salem State University (WSSU) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Theresa was active and never forgot how to have fun and enjoy her life unequivocally. Theresa enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She especially took pleasure in holiday family gatherings, preparing meals for love ones and weekend getaways with her husband John R. Coles.
She would always give tirelessly of herself to the needs of her family and associates and encouraged them to live up to their highest potential. This reflected in her choice of a career, assisting others to do their jobs to the fullest working at National General Insurance for twenty-nine years assisting her associates with their security needs.
Those remembering her fruitful life are: husband, John R. Coles, Sr., of the home; two sons, Ashley Boyd Carter of the District of Columbia, Spencer Alexander Carter, of the home; one step-son, John Rufus Coles, Jr., of Greensboro, North Carolina; one niece, Kia Malaika Williams of the District of Columbia; one nephew, Donyai Boyd Williams, of the District of Columbia; (one sister preceded Theresa in death: Barbara Boyd-Williams [Kerry]), and a host of cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held Thursday September 1, 2022, at 11:00am from Douthit's. there will be no public viewing.
