For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. (II Corinthians 5:1) Artemas Durante Dixon, age 83, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, July 28th 2021 due to acar accident. His departure was deeply felt by his family, friends, and church members. His infectious smile, warm spirit, humble nature, and godly wisdom was a blessing to all the lives he touched. Mr. Dixon was born on November 22, 1937 in Winston-Salem to the late Georgia and Frank Dixon. He was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Atkins High School. Upon graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army. After serving in the military, he was hired by RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and worked as a truck driver for 30 years. He also attended WSSU and Winsalem Business School, where he earned an Associate's Degree. Mr. Dixon was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and brother. He cherished his family and took great delight in caring for his lovely wife, Gen. His great sense of humor created many times of joy and laughter during family gatherings and fellowships. He was affectionately admired for his sharp dress and clean-cut appearance. Mr. Dixon was a faithful Christian and a long-time member of St. Stephens Baptist Church. He served in several capacities including Sunday School teacher, co-leader of the Seasoned Saints ministry, and the Usher board. He also actively participated in the men's' ministry. In his personal time, he enjoyed up keeping his flower garden, playing golf, reading the Word of God, and spending time with his beloved brothers. Mr. Dixon also loved his family at the local YWCA on Waterworks Road, W-S, where he exercised with the early morning crew. Mr. Dixon was preceded in death by two siblings: Lorenzo Dixon, Sr. and William Dixon. He leaves to cherish his memory the following family members: A devoted wife of 55 years -Geneva Dixon; two children: Min. Jarrod (Dr. Cynthia) Dixon, Keir (Sherry) Dixon; three grandchildren: Jiwann (Shade') Dixon, Jarrod Dixon II (Seher Dey); and Noah Leak; two brothers: James (Myra) Dixon, Curtis Dixon and host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins. A service of worship and celebration of Mr. Dixon's life will be held Friday, August 6th, 2021, at 12:00 noon at St. Stephens Baptist Church, 5000 Noble Street, W-S, NC 27105. The family will receive visitors from 11:30am-12:00 noon. Pastor James Cook is the eulogist. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
