God in His infinite wisdom and divine love called home His beloved son, Mr. Gary Leon Jowers, from his labors to rest and to receive his eternal reward on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.



Gary Leon Jowers, better known as "Bunk", was born on September 3, 1956, to the late Lillie M. Jowers Bryant and the late Willie Pegues in Winston-Salem NC. He was raised by his Foster Parents Mr. and Mrs. Tom Fogle. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, foster brother Wendell Robinson, one uncle and one aunt.



His early education was obtained by attending Carver School of the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System. After moving to Charlotte, NC in 1970, he received his High School Diploma from East Mecklenburg High School in 1974.

Bunk had the gift of gab, a willing spirit and never met a stranger. He would try to help anyone in need and would always give you an encouraging word. He loved to watch professional and college basketball, although he had no special team, but the NFL is what he really loved watching. He loved to take long walks and even after being blessed with a car, he continued to walk for his health.

After years of ups and downs, he was touched by the hand of God and everything in his life changed. He had a new walk and a new talk. The smile on his face was even different.



His memories are left to be cherished by his brothers, John Jowers (Malinda), Willie Jowers (Rose) all from Winston-Salem, NC and Alfonzo Jowers (Audrey) of Charlotte, NC. Sister Vicky Dargan (Brooks) of Winston-Salem, NC. Cousins, Kay Washington of Cameron, NC. and Racheal Alexander (Richard) of Angier, NC., and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Also cherishing his memories is special friend Anita "Gail" McCreay. A public viewing will be held Wednesday November 30, 2022, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral Services will be Thursday December 1, 2022, at 12pm from Ambassador Cathedral and interment will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 11:30am at the church. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
