Mr. Ishman Woodard's Obituary

Ishman Worth Woodard, Sr. He quietly and peacefully departed this earthly life on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at his residence in Walkertown, North Carolina. Ishman graduated from Darden High School in Wilson, NC in 1960. He was drafted and served in the Army from 1962-1964. He then attended and graduated from Wilson Technical Institute, Wilson, NC and Fayetteville Technical Community College, Fayetteville, NC in 1968 where he received a degree as a Tool and Dye Maker. He gave his life to God at an early age and became a member. of Rountree Missionary Baptist Church, Wilson NC, where he was ordained as a deacon at the age of 27. Ishman sought employment in his trade which he acquired in Winston Salem, North Carolina in 1969 where he began his career with AMP Inc. When he began his life in a new city, he also joined Mars Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W. E. Samuels and continued his labor as a deacon, trustee, and Sunday School Superintendent. Ishman possessed a melodious bass voice and raised it in song in many choirs in Wilson, Charlotte, and Winston Salem, NC. While employed by AMP Inc. Ishman was afforded the opportunity to travel to destinations such as Singapore, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. AMP was purchased by Tyco International and after nearly thirty years of employment, he retired in 1998. Ishman enjoyed many hobbies such as photography, fishing, and bowling. He often had a camera in his hands and loved sharing photos with family and friends. If you wanted an instant smile or great conversation with Ishman, all you had to do was speak with him about fishing. He thoroughly enjoyed deep sea fishing, and he loved sharing the fish that he caught with friends and loved ones. His other hobby was bowling where he was a member of the Salty Crew team at Creekside Bowling Lanes. Ishman leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of forty-nine years, Carolyn J Woodard of the home, son Ishman Worth Woodard, Jr., Miami, FL, and daughter Shadrienne L. Woodard of Winston Salem, NC. Two brothers William Woodard (Shelia) and Samuel Woodard of Wilson, NC, seven sisters, Gelena Woodard of Philadelphia, PA, Neona Bailey of Wilson, NC, Vernell Harvey (John) of Garner, NC, Sandra Lewis (Herman) of Wilson, NC Janice Jones of Charlotte, NC, Velma Sanders (Levi) of Clayton, NC, Shelia McAllister (Patrick) of Newport News, VA, and sister-in-law Bobbie Lofton Woodard (George) along with several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives. A public viewing will be held Friday January 5, 2024 from 1 pm until 5 pm at Douthit's Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 6. 2024.at 12:30 pm from Mars Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at 12:00 pm at the Church. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
