Mr. Michael Levon McClinton (Mike) transitioned into eternal rest on Thursday, July 6th, 2023, at The Oaks. He was born on June 10th, 1957, to Theodore and Mary Cain Shields in Winston-Salem, N.C. After graduating from East Forsyth High School, he enlisted into the United States Army and honorably served his country. Upon his return home from the military, he went to work for Bassett Sacks and later worked for Sonoco Recycling. Mike was loved, admired, and respected by everyone he encountered. His favorite past times were entertaining family and friends with cookouts and talking about his favorite team The Carolina Panthers. For many years Mike was a devoted caregiver for his family until his health declined.
Mike was preceded in death by a loving son Marquis Lydell McMahan, Sr., his daughter-in-law Melissa McMahan, his niece Tambra Yvette Grant and his best friend Marion Canty.
Left to cherish his precious memories are his parents Theodore and Mary Shields. His grandchildren: Marquis McMahan Jr of Washington, D.C., Makenzie McMahan, Mekhia McMahan, Isaiah McMahan, Myles McMahan, Madison McMahan, and Kimani Muldovan all of Winston-Salem, N.C. Two sisters: Valjean Cain Grant (Devoted Caretaker) and Brenda Cain Lyons. Four brothers: Carlyle McClinton Jr, Quentin McClinton, Keith McClinton (his best friend), all of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Daryl R. Shields of Jacksonville, Florida. Aunts: Mrs. Hattie Jeter of Winston-Salem, N.C., Mrs. Hazel Lyerly of Philadelphia, Pa and Mrs. Louise Shields Hamilton of Charleston, South Carolina.
Mike had a very special and devoted friend of 30 plus years, Ms. Mildred Cuthrell of Winston-Salem, N.C.
He also leaves to cherish his memories of his nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins and friends. Mike presence, laughter and smile will be solely missed.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday July 12, 2023, at 1pm from Douthit's. The family will receive friends at 12:30pm. The will be no public viewing. Arrangements are in the are of Douthit Funeral Services.
