Richard ("Dick") Irvin Scritchfield, Sr., 79, passed away on March 15, 2024, after complications from an automobile accident at Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He was born to the late Kenneth Sheldon and Mable Osie (Spencer) Scritchfield on April 26, 1944, in Windber, Pennsylvania. Later, he moved to Akron, attended Hower High School, and married the love of his life, Shirley in 1963. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 1985 by his wife, Shirly Lou (Beatty); daughter, Christina Louise; brothers, Dewaine Buskirk and Sheldon Eugene Scritchfield; sister, Barbara Jean Uphouse; and great-grandson Logan Lewis Collins.
Dick will always be remembered by those who survive daughter, Tammy (David) Jones of Tobaccoville, NC; sons, Richard (Jessica) Irvin Scritchfield, Jr. of Walnut Cove, NC, Matthew Kenneth Scritchfield of Asheville, NC, and Joshua (Jessica) James Scritchfield of Doylestown, OH.; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce (Renzil) Facemire of Akron, OH.; and brother, Russel Edward Scritchfield of Akron, OH.
Dick lived most of his life in Akron, Ohio raising his family and working as a machinist at Goodyear for 30 years. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing until the very end. He was an avid Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan for his entire life. Dick was known as hard working and tough.
In 2011 Dick moved to King, North Carolina to be closer to his children. In his later years, Dick chose to live alone, suffer alone, and would have died alone if not for his amazing daughter, Tammy, who was at his bedside until the very end.
Interment will be held at Hillside Memorial Park in Akron, Ohio, at a future date sentimental to the family.
