Ms. Betty Gaither

September 3, 1937 - February 21, 2022

Betty Jean Gaither departed from this life to a Supreme destination on Monday, February 21, 2022. She was born to the late Gracie Terry on September 3, 1937, in Winston Salem, NC. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gracie Terry and her grandson, Cory Gaither. Betty was a dedicated mother and loving grandmother, who devoted her life to raising her children and grandchildren. She was selfless; she always put the needs of her family before her own. Betty didn’t have the opportunity to complete her formal education; however, she was full of wisdom and insight. She often shared with her children and grandchildren, that she wanted them to live long, prosperous and productive lives. Her goal in life was to live for her children and assist them in accomplishing their goals. She saw their success as her success and their failures as her failures. Betty dedicated her life to Christ and became a member at New Life Church, where she was often referred to as ‘Granny’, and she quickly became the grandmother of the church. Betty had a love for God and desired for all of her children to be saved. Betty enjoyed plenty of soulful music from artists like Sam Cooke, Otis Redding and Al Green among others. Betty enjoyed having a good time laughing and dancing with family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memories eight children, Michael Gaither, Keith Gaither, Sr., Bobby (Judy) Gaither, James (DeShanna) Johnson, Shirley (Michael) Sunkins, Kenneth (Molanda) Gaither, Vanessa White, and Karl Gaither; twenty-one grandchildren – Rhonda, Shaun, Derrick, Keith Jr., Brian, Candice, David, Jourdan, Michael Jr., Daniel, Vernetta, Cavin, Courtney, Kalynn, Jada, Morgan, Chris, Geoffrey, Tiffany, Michael and D’Tasha, and great-grandchildren, along with a host of devoted family and friends A public viewing will be held Friday February 25, 2022, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral service will be held Saturday February 26, 2022, at 12pm from Douthit's and interment will follow in Gardens of Memory. Family will receive at 11:30 am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
