Mrs. Estella Alexander Smith
July 2, 1949 - June 19, 2020
Estella May Alexander was born on July 2, 1949 to the late Lillie Rose Alexander and Richard Emmit Alexander in Mecklenburg County, Boydton, Virginia. She attended Mecklenburg County Public Schools and later obtained her GED. Her work history began as a private sitter, she later became a cashier at Wilco Hess for many years. She worked as a cashier at Kmart for four years until they closed. Mrs. Estella married Lester Smith in 2012. Mrs. Estella Smith was a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where she married and worshipped with her husband, Lester Smith under the tutelage of Pastor Nathan E. Scovens. Mrs. Estella served faithfully on the choir; she had a love for singing. A few of her favorite songs were “Ride Out the Storm, Heaven Belongs To You, and In the Middle of It.” She was preceded in death by her mother Lillie Rose Alexander, her father Richard Emmit Alexander, her son Lawrence Edward Rainey, Jr. known as “Larry,” two brothers Luther David Hilliard and Larry Darnell Hilliard, and one granddaughter Shaunta Dawkins. Leaving to cherish her memories are five children: Carl Alexander of Winston-Salem, NC, Mary Broadway (Michael) of Advance, NC, Rodney Rainey (Elisa) of Winston-Salem, NC, Wesley Alexander (Tiffany) of Lexington, NC, and Lakeisha Alexander of Winston-Salem, NC. Also leaving to cherish her memories are three sisters, Hazel Lambert (Thomas), Rose Marie Hilliard, and Daisy Alexander; three brothers, James C. Alexander, Al Alexander, Jr., and Willie Lee Alexander, all of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 12pm from Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. There will no public viewing.
