Mr. Gregory Whitfield
January 24, 1955 - April 10, 2022
In 1955, God brought forth a bountiful blessing when He poured love and life into a tiny soul who became known to us as Gregory, daddy, granddaddy, uncle, Brucie, Greg or Whit, as he was so affectionately called by his family and friends, was more than just a blessing, he was a precious gift from the Creator. Born on Monday, January 24, 1955, he immediately brought joy to the hearts of all he encountered. As he grew, he became known for his bold but quiet presence, his joyous smile and laughter, and his engaging personality. Gregory graduated with a BS in Electronics Engineer in 1972. He joined the U. S. Navy on September 24, 1980. On September 4, 1983, Gregory met and 4 months and 10 days later he married his soulmate Darlene on January 14, 1984. When God choose Gregory for this world, he ushered joy where there was sadness, light where there was darkness, peace where there was confusion, unity throughout the family and love for all to enjoy. Gregory was a devoted and loyal employee with the North Carolina Department of Transportation as an electronic engineer for over 20 years. Then God in his infinite wisdom decided to retire his Angel from his service to the world on Sunday, April 10, 2022, by giving Gregory his Wings and a place in his Kingdom to rest. Gregory will reign with us all FOREVER. Gregory was preceded in death by his father, James Samuel Whitfield, his aunt, Barbara Jones, his grandmother, Lottie Jones, his brother-in-law, Michael Boyd and daughter, Rhamin Hill. Gregory is love by so many including his wife, Darlene S. Whitfield; his mother, Dorothy Whitfield; his son, Jailin Stevenson; his son-in-law, Marcus Hill; his brother, Thomas Braxon; his sisters: Sharon Braxton, Sheryl Nor and Carolyn Boyd; his 4 wonderful grandchildren: Donnell (Shaniya) Joiner, Dontae (KeKe) Joiner, Ranell Joiner-Whitfield and Sacoyia Hill; 8 great grandkids: Donnell Jr. Shemar; Raleigh, Aven, Yamir, Cash, Da'Coir and Shai; and a host of other relatives to include nieces, nephews and friends.
