    Ms. Iris Bell Pettigrew

    February 5, 1956 - March 1, 2021

On Monday, March 1, 2021 the Lord came to claim one of his beloved angels and took Iris B. Pettigrew to be reunited with her family in heaven. She was able to transition peacefully at home after privately battling cancer with strength and grace. Iris was born February 5, 1956 to LeRoy and Gwendolyn Bell in Winston-Salem, NC. Iris was a graduate of West Forsyth High School and worked for many years with the Station 4 Rescue Squad. She also worked for the Veterans Administration for 31 years in various capacities before retiring to enjoy her next stages of life. Anyone that knew Iris knew that she never met a stranger. She had a smile, whit, personality, and spirit that made people gravitate to her and hold her in their confidence forever. As well as a sense of fashion, style, and hair versatility that would always keep you guessing. Iris loved God, family, and enjoying life. Iris was an avid traveler and was able to experience many places both in this country and abroad, such as Jamaica, Costa Rica, and Hawaii. When at home her creative spirit would kick in and she would keep active with a various array of hobbies that included sewing, crocheting, cooking, and making natural body care products such as soaps, lotions, and body creams. She also had a love of technology that drove her to always have the latest gadgets and products to stay up to date with the changing world. Because Iris had so much love to give she couldn’t regulate it to just family and friends. Over the years she cared for many furry friends of all varieties. But the two that brought her the greatest comfort and joy in her final years were her precious dog, Mr. Gibbs and cat, Mayhem. Iris was preceded in death by her mother and father, LeRoy and Gwendolyn Bell, sister G. Yvette Bell, Uncle Alphonso Bell and grandmother and namesake Iris Walton. She is survived by a small but loving family Kalli, Kyha and Kimberly (Kentrelle) (daughters), Khalil (Michala) Rynes, Khari Pettigrew, Khaliya Barr, Kristin Pettigrew, Kueben and Kwest Boxley, Hajari Koi Jah (grandchildren) and Kaiden Pettigrew (great-grandson), her devoted Aunt Vanessa Lyerly, Great-Aunt Betty Evans, and cousins Giha Shannon, Miha and Tiha Evans, Lauretta Johnson as well as other relatives and friendsA private memorial services will held Monday, March 8, 2021 at Douthit's. There will be no public viewing. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services
