After an extended illness, a beautiful and loving life came to a close with the death of Annie Ruth Brown. She was born to the late Prince Alby and Edna Hampton Allen on April 15, 1926.
Ruth, as she was fondly called, attended the public schools in Davie County and was a graduate of Atkins High School in Forsyth County. She also attended Winston-Salem Teachers College.
Prior to her retirement she was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant and a Domestic worker. She loved caring for others and became part of the families as she worked in their homes.
During her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and cooking. Watching westerns and Football were some of her favorite hobbies during her later years.
Ruth joined Piney Grove United Methodist Church at an early age and served in many capacities as long as her health allowed.
She is preceded in death by her husband Walter Brown, a son and daughter-in-law Calvin and Yvette Brown, her parents and three brothers: Robert, Alfred and Harvey Allen.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son Robert (Beverly) Kimber grandson Chris and great-grandson Antoine of Columbus, Ohio: two devoted nieces: Angie Thompson and Sharon Allen: two sisters Annie (Clarence) Faulkner and Florence Owens, two brothers Willie (Mable) Allen and Jerry Allen: a sister-in-law Mae Brown of Philadelphia, Pa, two Caregivers Robette Davis and Christine Young, three loyal friends Elizabeth Fenwick, George and Eleanor Wilson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A public viewing will be held Friday January 6, 2023, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 7, 2023, at 12:00pm from Piney Grove United Methodist Church in Advance NC. The family will receive friends at 11:30am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
