Annie Yvonne Harris Goodson of Winston-Salem, North Carolina transitioned from this life into the presence of her heavenly father on December 13, 2021. She formally resided in Bluefield, Virginia as well as Bluefield, West Virginia. She was a product of the Tazewell County School System and graduated early at the age of 16 years old. She matriculated to Virginia State University Petersburg, Virginia where she received a BS in Education. A dedicated and passionate teacher, she taught in several elementary schools in the Philadelphia area and later in the Hopkins, South Carolina School System. While finally returning to Bluefield, Virginia in 1972. She received additional certification in Elementary Education from Bluefield State College and continued to teach as it was her passion. Being raised in a God-fearing home she was baptized at the Tazewell Baptist Church in 1955 and was a proud member of this church for 40 years. She served faithfully as the music director and pianist for several choirs in the church. She also served on the Senior Missionary Society, Vice Chairperson of the Music Board, Member of the Church Executive Board, A member of the George Campbell Sunday School Class and the Tabernacle General Program Committee.
Due to her health she moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina and became a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully in several different ministries. She is preceded in death by her parents, a son Phillip H. Harris, two sisters Sylvia Harris and Nadine Harris. She is survived by her son Nicholas H. Goodson (Yolanda) of McLeansville, NC; a daughter Katrina Goodson Williams (Jesse) of Winston- Salem, NC. A sister Kathleen T. Thompson of Colombus, OH. Six grandchildren Omar Goodson (Dara) of Whitsett, NC; Dasjon Goodson of Winston-Salem, NC; Demetrius Roberts (Sequoia) of Virginia Beach, VA; Keshawn and Deshawn Rhodes of Winston-Salem, NC; Dontajah Harriston of Winston-Salem, NC. One great grandchild Dasjon Goodson Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 20, 2021, at 11:30am from Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at 11:00am. A public viewing will be held Sunday, December 19, 2021, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
