Obituary

Anthony (Tony) Adriel McCormick passed unexpectedly in his home on April 13, 2021, in Winston-Salem, NC. Tony was born July 10th, 1957, in New York but was raised in Winston Salem, NC. As a young boy, he resided on Stokes Avenue with his mother, Mary McCormick Shuler, one loving sister, Valerie Wilson, and two dear cousins Brenda Hairston and Lindy Harris. As the baby boy in the home, he got away with everything from building a chicken coop in the backyard, stringing up the house to catch Santa Claus, and posting Starchild paraphernalia around his room to show his "supergroovalisticprosifunkstication". He loved school and graduated from Winston-Salem State University where he pledged Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and formed a lifetime brotherhood with Ben Piggott. He went on to receive his Masters in Political Science from North Carolina State University. Tony was truly a family man. He fathered two daughters, Andriel McCormick and Shameka McCormick (deceased February 07,2015) and embraced Jessica Smart and Christopher Smart (Kofi) with his former wife Brenda McCormick. He fathered Latasha Love and Brandy Love and embraced Jasmine Love Venable (Steve) and Christopher Love with his best friend and life companion, Lisa Love. He was a proud "Granddaddy" to all of his grandchildren: Jahari Love, Tristen Love, Serenity Love, Elijah Smart, Danae Schafer and Melanie Smart. Tony had one niece Shareka Williams (Irvin), two grand-nieces Capree' Van Eaton and Alexis Van Eaton, and one great grand-nephew Christian Van Eaton, but he was "Uncle Ant" throughout the family. Tony loved God, family, Dallas Cowboys, Christmastime, fishing, and the outdoors. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church for 30 years and later joined Union Baptist Church to continue his faithful servanthood. He was most known for his love of lawns. When he was not mowing, he would find time for his love of fishing. Whether he caught a fish or not, the peace of the activity is what gave him joy. Tony, Daddy, Granddaddy, Uncle Ant has now entered the arms of Jesus and is home with his Father. His time with us was memorable. He was loved by all and will be missed greatly. A public viewing will be held Monday, April 19, 2021 from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 1pm from Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
