Betty Ann Terry, affectionately known as "Aunt Betty," peacefully passed away on September 1, 2025, just shy of her 79th birthday. Born on September 22, 1946, she was a radiant source of love and kindness throughout her life.
A proud graduate and valedictorian of Anderson High School in 1964, Betty pursued higher education with an Academic Scholarship to Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She ultimately earned her Bachelor of Science degree from High Point University, creating a solid foundation for her professional endeavors. Betty dedicated 30 years to RJ Reynolds, retiring as a Computer Systems Specialist, where her passion and expertise left a lasting impact. She also retired from the West Forsyth YMCA, where she was adored by many.
Betty was a devoted member of Goler Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, serving in various roles including Deaconess, a member of the Trustee Board, Women's Ministry, Parent Body Missionary, and a faithful Sunday School attendee.
She was a Legacy Member of the Anderson Alumni Association, having served as both past president and treasurer. As one of the original organizers of the Diggs-Latham mentoring program, known as "The United Dreamers," she made significant contributions to the community. Additionally, she was an active participant in the Big 4 Alumni Association, dedicating countless hours to ensure the success of various initiatives that celebrated the legacy of historically Black high schools in Winston-Salem. For example, she played an instrumental role in establishing the endowed scholarship fund at Winston-Salem State University, which honors the students and teachers of the Big 4, showcasing her deep commitment to education and service.
A public viewing will be held Thursday September 11, 2025 from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Friday September 12 2025 at 12pm from Goler Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church and interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial l Gardens. The family will receive friends at 11:30am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
