Obituary

Beverly Ann Reddick Tucker (Bev) was born on March 31, 1948, in Philadelphia, PA to the late
Rev. Lewis and Ann Reddick. She transitioned from labor to reward on February 4, 2023, at her
home.
Bev was educated in the Philadelphia School System. In 1978, she and her sister of choice, Gwen
Monroe, relocated to Winston-Salem, NC to introduce their children to a new beginning. In
continuing her education Beverly earned her bachelor's Arts degree in Gerontology at Winston
Salem State University (WSSU) in the Spring of 2007.
Beverly was employed at WSSU for over 10 years, where she worked at the Physical Plant in
Facilities, the Music Department, and subsequently the Education Department under Dr. Jerry
Hickerson. Transitioning from education, Beverly worked as a data collector for the Department.
of Epidemiology at Wake Forest Baptist Health (WFBH) and was later hired as a Project Manager
with Cardiovascular Health Studies (CHS). She also worked with MESA for 20 years. Returning to
work part-time, Beverly worked in ARIC study for 3 years until Covid and her underlying health
conditions forced her to retire again.
An altruistic volunteer, Beverly thoroughly enjoyed working with both the youth and aging.
population. For many years Bev volunteered at Big Brothers Big Sisters Services Inc. and
remained close with her little sister Lauren Anderson. Working as an Afterschool Site Director at
The Downtown Church Center, located at Green St. United Methodist Church, Beverly assisted.

home visits to patients dealing with end-of-life choices.
Beverly attended Exodus United Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Tembila Covington
where she served faithfully alongside the congregation that she loved dearly.
Bev leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Jerome S. Redford Jr (Crystal) and Paul E.
Redford, both of Winston-Salem, NC; her sweet little princess Shyla; two goddaughters,
Zakiyyah Niang and Danielle Mitchell, both of Winston-Salem, NC; and her companion and
friend Aaron Penn of Washington DC; along with a host of other relatives and friends. A public viewing will be held Tuesday February 14, 2023, from 1pm until 5pma t Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 15, 2023, at 12pm from Exodus United Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at 11:30am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
