Billy Gray France 84 of Winston-Salem, NC. He was born in Surry County July 28, 1939, to the late James Ernest and Dora Bell France. He was called to his Heavenly home on Saturday June 29, 2024, at Atrium Heath Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.

He was a faithful member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and Ordained as a Deacon under Dr. Battle in 1944 until his health declined.

He was a proud veteran and sported his hat when we/he went out people would always "Thank" him for his service. Billy retired from Fowler Jones Construction after many years. He was a quiet, humble and kind-hearted. He did not like drama. He loved his Duke University and Wake Forest every time they played. His favorite word, "I appreciate you coming by, those who knew him knew that was his cue to leave LOL.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Catherine Virgina France, two brothers James Ernest France, Jr. and Robert Lee (Bobby) France.

He leaves to cherish his memories his sister Sarah Gentry of Winston-Salem, four devoted friends Deacon William Tatum, Deacon Douglas Lightfoot, Deacon Rudolph Jessup and John Robert Smith. Stepdaughter Marilyn (Robert) Pickering, Oh. Three nieces Rachel (Raynard) Evans of Rural Hall, NC, Sandra Gentry of Indian Trail, NC; Felica Evans of Winston-Salem. One nephew Terry Evans of Las Vegas, NV. A host great nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A public viewing will be held Tuesday July 9, 2024, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 10, 2024, at 11:00 am from Mt. Mariah Baptist Church, the family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m., Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
