Obituary

Bishop David Phillip Davis of Winston-Salem, NC, transitioned on August 11, 2023. He was born on November 26, 1964, a son of the late Bishop A.D. Davis and Mother Betty B. Davis. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Dock Davis, III ("DJ") and Samuel (Denice) Davis.

Bishop Davis graduated from East Forsyth High School, where he was a member of the marching band and the ROTC Color Guard Drill Team. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and graduated from Drill Sergeant School in 1988 at Fort Jackson, SC. After graduating from basic law enforcement training, he worked in law enforcement for over 20 years with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department and Winston-Salem State University.

Bishop Davis united in marriage to Lenora Sloan, and to this union they shared four children.

As a teenager, Bishop Davis received the Holy Ghost during a revival at Progressive Apostolic Church, which was preached by then Elder Donald Hyman. As a young member of Mt. Olive Apostolic Church, Bishop Davis was very active. He was the choir director, president of the YPAA, and would later become the Assistant Pastor after preaching his initial sermon in January of 1985. Bishop Davis was a faithful member and Assistant Pastor of Mt. Olive Apostolic Church for many years before he and his wife Lenora founded New Freedom Gospel Ministry. Bishop Davis had lots of spiritual babies.

He leaves to cherish precious memories: his wife, Pastor Lenora Sloan Davis; four children, Adrian Sherrill, Monya Sherrill, Joshua Jeter, and Moriah Sherrill; seven brothers, Matthew (Denese), Isaiah (Vickie), Thomas (Clara), Timothy, Daniel, James, and Titus (Latoya); three sisters, Betty Davis Simpson, Vickie Davis Boyd (Waddell), and Debbie Lewis; his closest friend of over 30 years, Donell Sanders, whom he affectionately referred to as his "brother

from another mother"; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. A public viewing will be held Friday August 18, 2023, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's.
