Mrs. Catherine Pace Brown, known to some as "Cat", "Nana Cat", or "Mrs. Kitty" of 1014 Nancy Lane Winston-Salem, N.C. entered peacefully into eternal rest at her home on Thursday, June 10, 2021. Mrs. Brown was born on March 13, 1937 in Winston-Salem, N.C. to the late Louise Callahan and Nathaniel Pace. Mrs. Catherine P. Brown was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life Mr. Robert (Red Cap) Brown for over 40 years. Catherine and Robert's love for family enabled them to raise not only their children but raise and mentor countless other children and extended family members. Their home served as a haven to many including their grands, and great-grands. She loved her family and friends unconditionally. Mrs. Brown was an avid cook. Many people knew her by her delicious meals and cakes she graciously shared with family and friends. Mrs. Catherine Brown at a very early age gave her life to Christ. After living several years in Virginia, Mrs. Brown relocated back to Winston-Salem, N.C. and become a member of Union Baptist Church under Watch-care under the leadership of the late Dr. A. H. McDaniel in the 50's. After prayerful consideration she joined Union Baptist Church under her Christian Experience and served faithfully for over 60 years in many capacities including but not limited to the Nurses' Board, an avid Sunday School member, and a cook of "Aquilla's Kitchen". Mrs. Brown was employed for many years at Bell Brothers Restaurant and Union Baptist Day Care Center. Her delicious meals were always made with love. Mrs. Catherine Brown was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert (Red Cap) Brown; mother, Louise Callahan; father, Nathaniel Pace; brothers, Wilford Pace, Charles Callahan, and Edward Pace; sisters, Augusta Pace, and Gloria Miller; mother-in-law, Mary Magaline Brown; two special sisters-in-law, Fannie Holt and Yvonne Brown; nephew, Tony Brown.
Those who remain to cherish fond memories include her children, Robert Pace, Louise Brown (of the home), Christine Brown and Nathaniel (Joanne) Brown, all of Winston-Salem, N.C.; nephew, James Baker (Carolyn) of California; niece, Opal Weston of Maryland; four grandchildren, Kelvin (Ta'Sheka) Brown, Kristy (Leon) Spencer, Jasper Hughes, Kimani Gordon; nine great-grandchildren, Kedrick, MeKayla, Kristeon, Kierra, Michelle, Keon, Trenton, Kimani, Jr., and Kimari; one brother, Douglas (Virginia) Callahan; one sister, Nancy Bell; two very devoted brothers-in-law, Daniel Brown, and Joseph Holt; devoted cousins, Charlie Pace, Millie Slaughter, and Helen Clark as well as a devoted friend for many, many years, Mrs. Evelyn Clark; three god-children, Shirley, Linda, and Mark. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Mrs. Catherine Brown loved and cared for many people in her 84 years of life and always did it with no hesitation. Mrs. Catherine Brown was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. Sleep on and take your rest Catherine. We loved you but God loved you best. A public viewing will be held Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 18, 2021 at 1pm from Douthit's and interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family will receive friends at 12:30.Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
