Clara Mae Elizabeth Bohannon Barringer, also affectionately known as "Ma", was a fun-loving character who always had a good word to say or maybe even a not so good word--about everyone. She was a beacon of literature and grace. She loved to welcome guest into her home for memorable visits filled with laughter, shared meals, and heartfelt conversations. She always had time to listen and you felt the love after being in her presence.
Clara, at age 98, entered her eternal rest peacefully on January 18, 2024 at Trellis Supportive Care. She was born on October 31, 1925 to Richard Benjamin Bohannon and Leona Geneva Bailey Bohannon in Forsyth County. She was the third of five girls. Clara was a loving and kind child that enjoyed living in Reynolda. Her early years of schooling were at Reynolda and she later graduated from Carver High School. She lived through The Great Depression and during that time she worked at Chatham Manufacturing Company. She later served many families as a domestic service worker; including the Pfaff family. She was a pillar in the Boston Community and her prominence was acknowledged by city and state officials.
Clara later joined the late William (Bill) E. Barringer in matrimony. From that union were six children. Clara was a Christian and enjoyed attending church at the Carver Road Church of Christ, where she was a devoted member for many years. She would love to sit and listen to music and sing along. Clara took pride in rearing her children and always supported them to the utmost. She also thoroughly enjoyed nurturing and spoiling her grandchildren. She was a caretaker and had a heart for caring for others.
Clara also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. Her love for gardening and flowers was evident as you passed through or visited her home. On most days, if you visited, you were surely welcomed with the aroma of some of her great cooking. If you stuck around, you may have been lucky to get pieces of her many secret recipes. Those who knew her well, knew you had better be good at spelling if you wanted to know what was going on around the house; but not too much as she would quickly spell to you m-i-n-d-y-o-u-r-b-u-s-i-n-e-s-s! Clara's life was a collection.
