Daniel Hughley, Sr. was born September 11,
1935 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama to
Cleveland and Idasphine (Guice) Hughley.
He moved to Atlanta, GA at an early age and
married Irene Lilly Ross in 1956. Irene passed
away August, 1959. Daniel relocated to Winston Salem, NC in1960, and married Catherine Leak
in 1962. She passed away July 27, 2018.
Daniel Hughley, Sr. resided in Winston-Salem
until his death. He was well liked and respected
in his community. He was a hard working and
very talented man in many occupations. He
retired from Stroh's Brewery after 32 years as a
mechanic. He loved Harley Davidson
motorcycles. He was a member of the Winston Salem Negro Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was
honored for saving a man's life after being
electrocuted on May 24, 1968.
He united with St. Stephen Missionary Church
and worshipped there faithfully until his health
didn't allow him to attend.
Daniel Sr., leaves to cherish his precious
memories to one very special friend Linda Perry,
four sons Calvin Hughley (Trudy), Daniel
Hughley, Jr. (Belinda), Darrell Springer
(Kimberley), Yohani Ray Hughley (Laketria);
one daughter Regina Facyson and one daughter in
law Cassandra Sims. Daniel Sr., was preceded in
death by his oldest son Donald Sims.
His brothers Reverend Bobby Hughley (Mae
Jean), Winston Hughley. He was preceded in
death by eight siblings; five sisters Willie Mae
Levett, Minnie Lee Brooks, Irene Dozier, Stella
Maud King, three brothers Cleveland Hughley, Jr.
Herman Hughley, and Walter Hughley. 20
grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A public viewing will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2020 from 2pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 12pm from St. John Baptist Church in Notasulga, AL 515 St. John Church Road. Flowers and cards by be seen to McKanzie Funeral Home, 1509 Notasulga Road, Tuskegee, AL 36083. Service will be livestream at 1pm est.
