Mr. David Leon Coleman, 65, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, at Baptist Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 9th, 1960 in Winston-Salem, David was the beloved son of Loretta Coleman and Ralph Henry Connor. He graduated from Parkland High School with the Class of 1979 and later attended Livingstone College.
David devoted many years as a cook at Waughtown Kids R Us Childcare Center, where he poured his heart into every meal—bringing joy, comfort, and creativity to the children and staff.
A true sports enthusiast, David had a lifelong passion for basketball, football, and track. Known for his laid-back personality, infectious energy, and quick wit, he was the life of every gathering—a true "dancing machine" who could light up any room. His love for the Dallas Cowboys was unmatched, and he proudly held the title of their biggest fan.
David is lovingly survived by his mother, Loretta Coleman; his children, Joy Coleman, Minister David Coleman, and Da'Je Coleman; and his siblings, Ralph Connor (Jit), Jacqueline Henderson, Elliott Coleman, Barbara Ann Coleman, Kelvin Coleman, and Amanda Coleman. He is also survived by his cherished granddaughter, Ny'Kya Lawrence.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Shymir whose memory he held dearly in his heart.
David also leaves behind a devoted friend, Ms. Carolyn Coleman, who stood by his side through life's many chapters and whom he loved deeply. In addition, he is remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly. The Coleman family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers during this time of loss.
Funeral services will be held on Friday October 24, 2025 at 11am at First Waughtown Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at 10:30am from the church. There will be a public viewing on Thursday October 23, 2025 from 1pm until 5pm. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
