Deacon Joshua Roberson 96, affectionately known as "Dadda", or "Uncle Josh", was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great, great grandfather, brother and uncle peacefully passed away at home in Winston-Salem, NC at sunrise on Sunday, October 3, 2021. Deacon Roberson was born January 13, 1925 in Jenkins County, Millen, Georgia to the late Albert Roberson, Sr., and Lillie Bell Roberson. He left the farm life to serve 2-years in the United States Army and was honorably discharged as Private First Class from Fort Myers, VA in 1947. Joshua was united in matrimony to the late Helen Carter under the leadership of the late Bishop Howard Smith, Pastor of Holy Temple Church of God In Christ.
Deacon Roberson remained a faithful member of Smith Memorial C.O.G.I.C. (formally known as Holy TempleC.O.G.I.C) under the leadership of his Pastor Dr. C. H. Evans. Deacon Roberson was a Kingdom building church member. He diligently served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Superintendent of the Sunday School, Pastoral Aide Leader and Vice President of the Usher board. Deacon Roberson retired from Wilbur B Driver Company in Newark, NJ (a subsidiary of Sylvania Electric products) after more than 30 years of service. He then became a self-employed Plumber.
In 1996 Deacon Roberson and his wife relocated to Winston-Salem, NC where they became active members of Greater Faith Deliverance Center under the leadership of Bishop John C. McClurkin. Deacon Roberson, because of his speed as a youth was called "Swift" who enjoyed playing and watching baseball, hunting, fishing, and gardening and always shared with family and friends. Deacon Roberson was a friendly person with a great sense of humor and mentored many people. He would tell young people "You're going to get old one day". He is preceded in death by his wife Helen, his two daughters Joyce and Helena, six sisters; Ellen Wilson, Emma Outerbridge, Bertha Jackson, Lillie Sconiers, Alvina Lasiter, and Louise Hunter, four brothers; Ralph Roberson Sr., Joe Roberson, Rudolph Roberson and Albert Roberson Jr. He is survived by his children, Joshua P. Roberson (Phyllis), Samuel Roberson (Pamela), Virginia Roberson, Anthony Roberson (Harriet), Linda Gordon (James), Janice R. Scott (Darrie) Godchildren; Clifton Holmes (Bernice), Richard Brown (Rosa); 13 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great, Great Grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his Greater Faith Deliverance Center Family . A public viewing will be held Sunday, October 10, 2021 from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 11, 2021 at 11:00am from Greater Faith Deliverance Center and Entombment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friend at 10:30am at the church.
