Diane Nelson Booe of Walkertown, NC passed peacefully in the early afternoon on
Thursday, January 25, 2024. She was born to the late Wilbur L. and Juanita Owens Nelson of
Pittsburgh, PA on August 3, 1942.
Diane graduated from Winston-Salem State University in 1986 and retired as a
schoolteacher from Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools after more than 20 years of
service. She was a faithful member of Goler AME Church. Diane had a zest for life and was a
devoted mother, grandmother, and cherished friend.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; sister, Jackie, and
stepdaughter, Cookie. She leaves to mourn two daughters: Danielle {Tim} Jones of
Walkertown, NC; and Denita Dalton of Atlanta, GA; granddaughters, Kristen Jones of Rural
Hall, NC; Sherika Jones of Rural Hall, NC; Joy Jones of Walkertown, NC; grandson, Joshua
Jones of Walkertown, NC; and great-grandson, Mason Judkins of Rural Hall, NC. She also
leaves to mourn a stepdaughter, Gwen Booe of Philadelphia, PA; sister, Nora Nelson Smith
and brother, Kevin Nelson of Pittsburgh, PA; sister-n-law, Alice {Herman} McNeil of
Landover, MD; sister-n-law Betty Ruth {Ronnie} Jackson of Toledo, OH; brother -n-law,
Delbert Duckins of Toledo, OH; devoted friends, James Miller, and Linda Hopson; and a host
of dear friends and beloved family.
Services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at Goler Memorial AME Zion Church. The
family will receive friends at 12:00 p.m. A public viewing will be held Thursday, February 1,
2024, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Douthit's Funeral Home. Arrangements are in the care of
Douthit Funeral Services.
