Born to the late Ralph Evans and Othella C. Evans, Donald Ross Evans (77) fought a good fight,
but on Sunday June 30, 2024, as he was enjoying the online service of Galilee Missionary
Baptist Church (GMBC), "Big D, Don, Unc, and Poppa D" as he was affectionally known by his
loved ones and friends went on to be with the Lord peacefully in his childhood home. He was
preceded in death by his brother Rass (Ralph) Evans II. A graduate from Atkins High School class of 1966 and Forsyth Technical Community College earning a certificate in Plumbing and Electric. He was employed and retired from Piedmont Airlines (American Airlines) for 35 years. Big D would not let grass grow under his feet therefore, he would come out of retirement to work security employed with The Budd Group,
Parts Bus Line, Winston-Salem Transit Authority, and Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools
as a school bus driver before finally retiring once and for all. He spent his time at the Winston
Lake YMCA exercising, which was a daily routine after waking up at 5 AM to call into the
prayer line at GMBC. He was a member of GMBC Men's Choir and Oak Grove Men's Choir and
a foster parent. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Mrs. Martha Evans of 24 years, Nephew Rass Evans III, Niece Rannetta Evans, daughter Nequae Evans, and extended family Julia Bailey, William
Bailey, Marie Baker (Micheal) and Angie Bailey. A host of grandchildren, grand nieces, grand
nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. Mr. Donald Evans put the care of others before his own. Even after this last hospitalization it was a great deal of information pertaining to his health that he kept to himself because he didn't want to be a burden on anyone. So many times, we had to tell him he wasn't a burden. Just having the opportunity to care for someone that unselfishly took the time to help others without expecting anything in return. Although our hearts are heavy with the loss of our loved one, to know that he
has been reunited with his heavenly family will bring us peace. Thank you to Trellis Supportive Care, Ms. Ceirra, and Ms. Kendra Campbell of Ceg Care Home Care, for providing care to our loved one. A public viewing will be held Wednesday July 10, 2024, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral Services will be held Thursday July 11, 2024, at 11:00 am from Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 10:30 am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
