Doris Yvette McQueen was born on November 12,1948 in Winston-Salem, NC to Dorothea Godfrey and Thomas Williams. Doris, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend went home to be with her heavenly father on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Doris was a native of Winston-Salem and a product of the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System. She also attended Forsyth Technical Community College and MTI Truck Driving School. Doris was a former employee of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and an activist in Forsyth County as the former president of Welfare Rights. Doris was a strong woman even though she was small in frame. She loved life and gave to many. Doris was also not scared of life and dealt with every problem head on. Doris was preceded in death by son, Travis McQueen; daughter, Twanna McQueen; twin sister, Dorothy McQueen; grandson, Leonard Carter; and nephew, Joseph McQueen. Doris will forever be loved and remembered. She leaves to cherish countless memories: daughter, Shelby Carter; grand-daughters Latriesa Carter, Tyianna McQueen, Tenesha McQueen, and Theresa Jones; grandsons, Chris Jones, Travis Jones, and Anthony Harden; niece, Sherry Switzer; great-niece, Shequia McQueen; great nephew, Samuel Switzer Jr; along with 15 great grandchildren whom she loved and adored, as well as bonus grandchildren, and a host of family and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 12pm from Douthit's. There will be no public viewing. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
