Dorothy Rucker Jones Washington, 73 years of age, passed on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Dorothy was born on July 31, 1947 in Belton, SC to the late Rotell and Viola Sloan Rucker. Dorothy was educated in the Forsyth County School System in Winston Salem, NC. She married to the late Barry Gilbert Washington, Sr. Dorothy had so much compassion and love for her family. They were her pride and joy. She loved to cook homemade meals for her family and friends, and she loved to do crossword puzzle games. She didn't meet any strangers. Dorothy was a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, a sister, Gladys Rucker Smith, and a brother, John L. Rucker. Dorothy leaves to cherish three brothers, Odell, Larry and Michael (Mary) Rucker, all of the city; three nieces were her care-takers, Geraldine (Willie) Willis, Wanda (Ricardo) Dixon, and Tammy (Anthony) Crew, one aunt, Mable Sloan Hauser, and a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. A public viewing will take place Monday, August 17, 2020 from 2pm until 5pm at Douthit's Funeral Home. A private Funeral will take place Tuesday, August 18,2020. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services. Social distancing guidelines will be observed, and facial coverings are required.
