Mrs. Dorris Wellman Jones, 90 - of Mocksville, NC, returned home to be with Our Heavenly Father on the evening of Saturday, January 21, 2023. She was born in Catawba, NC on June 8th, 1932, to her beloved parents the late Mable & Mason Wellman & her late devoted Stepfather Future Williams Sr. who aided in her loving upbringing. She attended Woodland Elementary School, 14th Street Middle School & graduated from Atkins High School. She retired after 17.5 years from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1992. She was a dedicated member of Greenwood Church of Christ since 1944 & continued her membership with Carver Road Church of Christ until her worldly departure. She was preceded in death by her loving and supportive husband, Melvin Jones; her 2 sons Desi "Spanky" Arnaz Penn & Aaron "Toby" Wellman; her grandson, Dea'Von "JuJu" Torraz Witherspoon; her siblings, John "JP" Wellman, Herbert Wellman, Lonnie Wellman, Sr., Albert "Cecil" Young; her God-Mother Ella Green, & her God-Sister Desiree Washington.
She is survived by her 3 daughters Cheryl Penn Evans (Rodney), Synthi'a Penn (Edward Valentine) & Meme Penn; 3 sons Garnett "Ricky" Wellman, Peter "Dinky" Penn, Jr. (Monica) & Sean Penn; her brothers Future Lee Williams Jr. and her dear Sister Marilyn Williams (Pat); and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a host of loving Nieces & Nephews; 2 special nieces Carroll and Tomeka - more akin to daughters; along with many caring Cousins and Friends (too many to name).
She was married to the late Melvin Jones also of Mocksville, NC for 34 years. They shared a great relationship full of love, support, travel, and annual friends & family fish fry's.
She was a great provider and caregiver to her 7 children and worked 3 jobs to take care of them while ensuring they were fed, clothed, and in church every week.
Dorris loved to cook and feed everyone and will be missed by all of us.
Now she is in God's hands & is resting for a while, until we meet again 2023On Friday, February 3rd there will be a visitation for Dorris at Douthit Funeral Services in Winston-Salem from 1pm - 5pm. Saturday, February 4th there will be a 30 minute viewing and visitation at Carver Road Church of Christ in Winston-Salem beginning at 12:30pm with funeral services to begin at 1pm. Family and Friends alike are invited and encouraged to join us in honoring her by wearing yellow, her favorite color. Dorris will be laid to rest along-side her husband PFC Melvin Jones on Monday, February 6th at 10am at the National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
