Elder Emma Mae (Crawford) Sims, daughter of Nellie (Fowler) Crawford and James H. Crawford was born on Feb. 1,1929 in Forsyth County North Carolina.
She was married to William C. Sims Sr. for over 65 years. She departed this life on October 5, 2021 at the advanced age of 92.
She was a very active church member for well over 65 years. She had served as the Sunday school superintendent for many years as well as serving as the "Mother Emeritus" at her church the Apostolic Church of God Inc. under the direction of Bishop Johnny Draft. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William C Sims Sr., two sons, Anthony Sims, William C. Sims Jr., and one daughter Yvette (Sims) Ingram. Emma was well respected in the community and her cake baking skills were legendary.
Emma leaves behind to remember her, a daughter Constance Marie Sims of Winston Salem, and a son Rayford N. Sims (Joyce) of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Two devoted sisters Ruby Hinson (Jerry), Doris Crawford, and one brother Deacon William H. Crawford, six grand children and seven great grand children. Visitation services for family and friends will be held at Douthit Funeral Service located at 515 Specialty Park Dr. in Winston Salem, NC on Sunday October 17th from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm.
A private "homecoming service" for family and close friends will be on Monday October 18th in the chapel at Douthit"s starting at 11:30 am.
Her interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston Salem.
The repast will be held following the interment at the Sims Center located at 1201 Alder St. in Winston Salem from 1 -5. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
