Mr. Elwood Ford was born Sept 23, 1940, in Marietta N.C. to the late Mary and Tecumseh Ford. On Monday December 11, 2023, God dispatched an Angel to usher his faithful servant home.

Elwood was educated In the Fairmont School System and later moved to Winston-Salem NC where he spent 30 years working at R.J. Reynolds. Elwood was faithfully devoted and married to Barbara Ford for 62 years where they built a home and family in Winston-Salem. This blissful union produced two daughters, Melody Ford and Traci DeGraphenreid (Craig DeGraphenreid)

Elwood was a dedicated member of New Bethel Baptist Church for more than 45 years. He served on the Usher Board, Trustee Board, and Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Missionary Department and Men's Choir. In addition to these servant roles, he was the van driver for the Wednesday Visitation team for over 15 years.

One of his favorite hobbies was fishing and he taught many how to master this sport. He also loved to be outdoors and was a modest, but well sought after landscaper. He was featured in the Winston-Salem Journal for his beautiful oval, box-shaped, and bell-shaped shrubbery.

Those left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren: Carlos Ford, Jasmine Davenport, Rashawn Couthen, and Jade DeGraphenreid. Two sisters: Rosemary Fuller and Fannie "Dean" Jones, along with a host loving nieces and nephews and a host of great grandchildren. A public viewing will be held Friday December 15, 2023, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Saturday December 16, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. from New Bethel Baptist Church and interment will follow in Piedmont memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Service.
