.On December 9, 1931, Fostina T. West was born to Joseph W. Toney and Leona B. Toney in Winston Salem, NC. She transitioned from labor to reward on December 20, 2022, after a brief illness.
Mrs. West was a graduate of Atkins High School. She worked at Bethlehem Daycare Center for 17 years where she taught numerous children who would often greet her in the community,years later. She also retired from the Forsyth County Department of Social Services after 10 years of employment.Mrs. West was passionate about her family and was an excellent seamstress. She was a member of the AMICA social club for many years until her health declined.
Mrs. West was a faithful, lifetime member of St. John C.M.E. Church, where she held numerous positions. She previously served as a member of the Senior Choir, Stewardess Board,Food Pantry Volunteer, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, President of the Missionary Society, andDirector of the Board of Christian Education.
She was married to Thomas C. West, Sr. who preceded her in death, and to this union were blessed with 5 children: Thomas C. West, Jr., Frederick A. West (Pamela), Sylvia W.( David) Fisher, Joann W. Griffin, and Darryl F. West; 8 grandchildren: Alicia W. Hymes (Maurice), Latasha W. Cason (Le'Odon), Danielle D. Morgan, Tara West, David Fisher, Jr., and Jordan E. Griffin; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. West is also survived by 1 sister Mrs. Shirley T. Sadler, and 1 brother William L. Toney (Bernice), 1 sister-n-law Mrs. Helen W. Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A public viewing will be held Tuesday December 27, 2022, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 28, 2022, at 11:30an from St. John CME Church and interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Grdens the family will receive friends at 11:00am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
