Gordon Jerome Hughes affectionately known as Jerry passed away peacefully in his home on May 21, 2023. Jerry was a supremely gifted individual exemplified by his love for his family and friends but most importantly by his love for God. He was a loving father and family man. Faithful Member of Morning Star Baptist Church serving as a choir member and trustee. He is one of the greatest culinary geniuses the community has ever known, a gift he shared with everyone. Jerry was an auto enthusiast and avid music collector. Young Jerry enjoyed music, learning to play the Bass Guitar and Visual Art, developing into a masterful artist and portrait painter. Jerry was a standout football receiver and basketball shooting guard with consistent double-digit points per game averages for West Forsyth High School. A proud alumnus of the graduating class of 1975.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Angelina Meeks who was the center of his heart, his grandchildren, Tyrrel Meeks & Maia Meeks, great-grandson Isaiah Meeks who he simply adored like no other. Born to loving parents Jacob & Sallie Hughes the Hughes family would become beloved members of the Winston Salem Community. Gordon "Jerry" Hughes was unique from the start. Twins Gordon & Gregory would be one of two sets of twins in a family of 10 siblings.
Jerry was no stranger to work in fact, Jerry's work career began at the young age of 13 at Junior' Record Store. He worked in real-estate construction, improvement & makeovers in the cites of Winston Salem, Raleigh, Charlotte and the greater Lake Norman Corridor of North Carolina. He worked 27 years at Wake Forest University as a Facilities Manager with notable work and contractual engagements for Winston-Salem State University and RJR Nabisco.

Angelina Meeks, Tyrrel Meeks, Maia Meeks, Isaiah Meeks, Paxton & Tangula Hughes, Gregory Hughes, Don Hughes, Benjamin Hughes, Dorothy & Reginald Austin, Veronica Hughes, Julia and Sylvester Young, Carl Settle Sr and a vast legacy of multi-generational family members
