James Melvin Baker was born April 23, 1966, to Jimmy Baker and the late Elizabeth T. Baker. He was a graduate of North Forsyth High School. He received his associate degree in Diesel Mechanics from Forsyth Technical College. He was a lifetime member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board, Deacon Ministry and as a Sunday School Teacher. James had a lengthy career with Ryder Truck with 29 years of service. He also had his own lawn care service which he employed nephews, cousins, and friends. James was full of life and enjoyed being with family and friends. You could always count on him to attend every family gathering. He especially enjoyed attending gospel concerts with his dad, brothers, uncle, and brother-in-law. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan.
James was preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth T. Baker, his grandparents James Melvin and Annie Baker, and Cletus and Bessie Terry, and a brother-in-law Marvin A. Bohannon.
He leaves to cherish his memory his father, Jimmy L. Baker, four brothers: Thomas Baker, Alvin (Marcia) Baker, Jimmy (Erica) Baker, James Terry and four sisters: Peggy Bohannon, Marilyn (Levi) George, Brenda (Chris) Gray and Barbara Terry, his sister-in-love Angela Carter, and fiancée Melanie Rice, whom he loved dearly. To remember their uncle "Bug" with many fond memories is a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and numerous friends. A public viewing will be held Friday May 19, 2023, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's . Funeral services will be held Saturday May 20, 2023, at 12pm from White Rock Baptist Church and interment will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends at 11:30am at the church. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
