Janice Y. Blackburn, Born in Salisbury, NC on June 13th,1952 to James P. Blackburn and Ruby Clayborn Blackburn. She gained her wings, July 1st, 2023. Janice is preceded in death by parents James and Ruby Blackburn, sister Beverly B. Phillips and brother in-law Jerry Forte.
Janice graduated from Boyden High School in 1970 and attended Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. Over the years she worked at many sewing companies, PPG Manufacturing Company, Winston-Salem State University in Cafeteria Management and retired from Philip Morris in Concord, NC with over twenty plus years of service.
She had a great love for family, football, softball, shopping, and traveling. She played for Bobby Johnson's All-Star Softball team for years. Janice was a former member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, in Salisbury NC where she was very active in various organizations and activities throughout the Church. She was an avid Winston Salem State University Football Team supporter, huge Carolina Panthers NFL Football Team fan and loved being around family, friends and supporting youth. Many over the years adopted her as their own "Auntie" and she loved them all the same as her own and would do anything in the world for all of them.
Leaving to cherish her memories are Kaylan Blackburn her niece and caregiver. Aunt Annie Ruth Clayborn Boyce of Bronx, NY sisters, Cynthia B. Forte of Charlotte, NC, Kimberly Blackburn of Winston-Salem, NC. Nieces and nephews, Dwayne Forte of Charlotte, NC and Dwoine Phillips of Winston-Salem, NC, Michelle Forte Of Concord, NC Great nieces Asia Renee' Phillips and little Miss. Tralan Ruby Crawford aka Pooh-Pooh both of Winston-Salem, NC.
A public viewing will be held Wednesday July 12, 2023, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Thursday July 13, 2023, at 12pm from Douthit's. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
