Mrs. Jean Carol Speaks Glenn, 82, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born on December 19, 1940 in Iredell County, North Carolina to Leroy and Gracie Speaks.
Mrs. Glenn was affectionately known as "Nanny" and "Nanny Jean" to so many and will be remembered for her delicious cooking, keen sense of fashion, infectious laughter and smile, and candid nature. She was also a devoted member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Senior Choir member, Deaconess, and on various other committees. She also served at the Yadkin Ministries and retired from Westinghouse and JC Penny's.
Mrs. Glenn was married to Wilson "June" Glenn, Jr. who preceded her in death June 13, 2009.
She was also preceded in death by her mother and father, siblings (Marvin Speaks, James David Speaks, Joanne Valentine, Hosey Speaks, Freddie Speaks), and granddaughter (Amia Watlington).
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters (Brenda Glenn and Angela Glenn White [Reggie]), grandchildren (Kisha Fields and Ryan DeLapp [Celenia]), great grandchildren (JaQuez Alston, Gracen Watlington, Cassius Fields), siblings (Tommie Speaks, Kenneth Speaks [Gladys]), and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephew . Services will be held Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 12pm at Douthit Funeral Home (515 Specialty Park Dr, Winston-Salem, NC 27105). Family will be receiving visitors at 11:30am. Burial will be at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Yadkinville, NC following the funeral service. THERE WILL BE NO PUBLIC VIEWING!
