Obituary

Joseph (Joe ) Edward Roy Dodd was born June 10, 1943, to Otis Bill Dodd and Grady Magdalene Dodd. He departed this life on August 23, 2023, at his home in Winston-Salem, NC.

Joseph (Joe) attended Carver High School and after leaving school he worked in the area.

He married his first wife (Shirley) in January 1965, and shortly after, was drafted into service for The United States Army. He served active duty in the Vietnam War conflict until his honorable discharge. Following his service, Joe began working for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company where he performed until retirement. Joe and Shirley raised a family and remained married until her transition on February 3, 2016.

Joseph (Joe) Dodd and his current wife Dorothy Williams Dodd shared their love together for twenty-six years and married six years. They enjoyed the life they shared together, which included love and bonds with her family. They remained together until the very end of his journey. No challenges prevented him from living life to the fullest.

He fought the good fight until, like his military service, he was relieved of his duties with honor by his Grand Commander in Heaven.

When God saw his work was done, that his service was complete and recognized... he closed his eyes, opened HIS arms, and welcomed him home.

Joseph (Joe) Dodd was a humble, loving man who would give the shirt off his back, never looking for anything in return, who loved joking around with his loved ones and just being together. He was known to be an avid wrestling and Mountain Dew fan.

Joseph (Joe) was an old-time religious, proud man of God.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Shirley Ann Dodd, parents Otis Bill Dodd and Grady Magdalene Dodd, one grandson Christopher Dodd, one brother Clevis Dodd, and two sisters Mary Dodd Kelly and Virginia Dodd Bryant.

He leaves to cherish many loving memories: his wife Dorothy (Dot) Dodd, and four daughters: Joann Dodd, Cynthia Dodd, Sanday Dodd, Jackie Dodd. One son: Joseph Edward Dodd Jr., three stepdaughters Donnetta Hickson, Linda (Norvell) Arnette, Cynthia Hanna, 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, one brother Matthew (Barbara) Dodd, a close brother- in- law Ben Williams, six additional brothers-in-law, and four sisters-in-law. Also, host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. Notable as well is his Church family at St. Mark Missionary Baptist church.
