Joseph "Cosmo Joe" McQueen of Winston-Salem, NC departed this life on Friday, June 7, 2019 after an extended illness.  He was born December 6, 1966 to Joseph Simpson and Dorothy McQueen.  He grew up in Happy Hill Gardens and graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1984.  He worked for years at Cosmos clothing store where he earned the title "Cosmo Joe".  He was a devout Dallas Cowboy fan, a local fashion model and was always dressed to the nines.

He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy McQueen, father Joseph Simpson, granddaughter Miracle Potter, a great nephew Nehemiah McQueen, a great niece Averie McQueen and three cousins Twanna McQueen, Travis McQueen and Leonard Carter all of the city.  He is survived by his daughter Lateya Potter and three grandchildren: Lateria, Kamasia and Montrell Potter, two sisters Sherry (McQueen) Switzer and Lisa Simpson, a brother Troy Simpson, a niece Shequia McQueen, a nephew Samuel Switzer Jr., two great nephews J'zion Faulkner and Logan Switzer, a great niece Sanaa Switzer, an aunt Doris McQueen and several cousins: Shelby (McQueen) Carter, Latreisa Carter, Tyianna McQueen, Tenesha McQueen, Teresa Jones, Christopher Jones, Dante` Jones, Deonna Young, Phil Roberts, Elma Hopkins, Freddie Hopkins, Charles Hopkins and Margaret Hopkins.
Services will be held Friday, June 14, 2019 at Douthit Funeral Services, 4655 Brownsboro Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. Visitation is from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. Funeral Services begin at 1:30 pm. Bishop Todd Fulton, Sr. Pastor Mount Moriah Outreach Center, Officiating. Mr. McQueen may be viewed Thursday,June 13, 2019 from 2pm-6pm at Douthit's.
