Joyce Melvena Peoples, 76, transcended peacefully from this earth on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Atrium Health Baptist Hospital. She was born in Patrick County Virginia to the late Claude Robert Smith and Rosa LouElla Hatcher Smith.
Joyce was a graduate of Yadkin High School, Class of 1966. She was a dedicated employee of Novant Health (Medical Park) for 32 years retiring in 2016, where she made plenty of patients and co-workers smile. She loved being in her yard wearing her big straw hat as well as spoiling her only grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Thomas Peoples; twin children, Joyce Tonette Speaks and Lawrence Erwin Speaks; Sister's, Catherine Smith, Leeann Patterson, and Reggie Williams; Brother's Jerry Smith, Billy Smith, and Alonzo Smith.
Being a dedicated mother and grandmother, she leaves to cherish her daughter of the home, Monique Speaks, one granddaughter of the home, Sophia Speaks; Sister, Rosa Anthony (Marvin) of Lewisville, NC; Brother's Horace Smith of Pfafftown, NC and Wendall Smith (Goldie) of Advance; with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. A special thanks to a special long-time friend Aldean "B" Lindsey. A memorial service will be held Saturday July 16, 2022, at 11:00am from Douthit's. There will be no public viewing. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
