Mrs. Lucy Hairston Watkins of Winston Salem, NC was born August
19, 1940 in Winston-Salem, NC. She departed this life early Saturday morning April 8, 2023 at her home after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Mr. Fate & Mrs. Beatrice Hairston and nine siblings.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories one son Mr. Sean Carella Watkins of the home, one grandson Mr. Timothy (Brittany ) Watkins of Norfolk, VA. two devoted granddaughters Natalia Watkins of Raleigh, NC and Ariana Watkins of Tampa, Florida, one sister Anna Hairston of
the city, two great grandsons Micah Cage Watkins and Kyler Gage Watkins of Norfolk, VA. A daughter-in-law, Dr. Aretha LaMoure Garr and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who will also miss and cherish memories of her. The family wishes to honor one of her dearest and closest friends, Mrs. Pauline Eaton, who was Lucy's committed and loving friend.
Mrs. Lucy attended the Winston-Salem Forsyth Public Schools and Winston-Salem Teachers College. She retired from JC Penny's Company after working for over 25 years.
Lucy was a former staff member of Union Baptist Church; she loved providing community service at Crisis Control Ministry where she volunteered for over 10 years.
She was a dedicated member of Union Baptist Church and attended regular until her health declined. Mrs. Lucy loved Sunday School and worked faithfully in the ministry for many years, she volunteered at Union Urban Ministries Food and Clothing Bank, Nurse Ministry, Video Ministry, Culinary Ministry, Missionary Ministry and the Wedding Committee. could for each ministry. A public viewing will be held Monday April 17, 2023, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Tuesday April 18, 2023, at 11:30am from Union Baptist Church and interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 11:00am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
