Obituary

Mr. McConnell Lee Coleman, Sr., 81, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Novant Medical Center after an extended period of illness. Mr. Coleman was a native of Fairfield County, S.C. He was born on January 25, 1939 to the late John Merdis Coleman and Daphne Cleola McConnell Coleman. Mr. Coleman was the fifth of six children born to this union. He was a graduate of McCrorey Liston High School. He attended Weeping Mary Baptist Church in Blair, S.C. before moving to Winston-Salem, N.C.
Mr. Coleman worked for several companies over his life span, 30 faithful years at R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, 30 years at Thalhimers Dept. Store (Macy's), and ten years at Harris Teeter.
Spiritually, Mr. Coleman was a faithful member of Praise Assembly Church and served as a member of the Ushers' Ministry and Garden Ministry. Mr. Coleman was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. John Howard Coleman; a sister, Mrs. Mattie "Novella" Coleman Wilson and a special friend, Mr. Robert Gray.
Mr. Coleman leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Doretha Coleman; six children, Bridget Latrice Coleman, Vanessa (Bruce) Coleman-Adams; McConnell Lee Coleman, Jr.; Marlin Lavon Coleman; Celinda (Samuel) Coleman-Grier; and Stacie Diane Coleman. Three sisters, Tina Coleman (Rev. William L. Sr.) Owens; Edna R. Coleman and Bertha C. Coleman; two brothers, Arthur L. (Pearlie) Coleman; all of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Young "Olanda" N. (Loretta) Coleman of Chicago, Illinois. Five grandchildren; Bruce (DeAndra) Adams, Jr.; Brandon Adams, Briana Adams, Terrance Nivens, and Terrez Nivens. Three great-grandchildren; Denard, Skylar, Thelia, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30pm Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Praise Assembly Church, with family visitation beginning at 1pm. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Coleman may be viewed Friday, February 14, 2020 from 2pm-6pm at Douthit's,
