Minister John Hymes Jr. made the transition from labor to reward on Monday, August 8, 2022.

Born on January 30, 1942, he was the only child of the late Mary and John Hymes Sr.

He was a product of the Winston-Salem Forsyth School System, a graduated of Atkins High School and later attended Florida A&M University where was proud to be part of the drumline.

In addition to his faith and family his other loves were studying his Bible, the movie "Drumline" and the Dallas Cowboys.

John joined the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in 2001 where he faithfully served as an Associate Minister until his health would no longer allow him to be in attendance.

Minister Hymes is survived by his dedicated wife of 26 years Deaconess Carolyn Hymes, 3 sons, John Hymes lll (Teresa), Maurice Hymes (Alicia), T.E. Hymes (Toni), 6 stepchildren, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, 1 sister-in-law, Jemona McCollum, 1 brother-in-law, Frank Kershaw. A public viewing will be held Thursday August 11, 2022, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Friday August 12, 2022, at 12:00pm from Galilee Baptist Church and interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 11:30am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
