Obituary

Fannie Mae Carson Cato, born on January 12, 1939, in Mocksville, North Carolina, passed away on October 19, 2024 surrounded by love and family. She was the cherished daughter of the late Arthur Carson and Fannie Jane Foster Carson. Fannie Mae was a proud graduate of Atkins High School. Class of 1957, where she excelled and formed lifelong friendships. Following graduation, she dedicated her career to helping others, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Baptist Hospital. In addition, her nurturing spirit was a gift to the children she taught as a preschool teacher at First Baptist Church.
She married the love of her life. Bell Cato, and they remained devoted to one another until his passing. Their marriage was built on love, faith, and mutual respeet, and their bond was a source of strength throughout their lives. For over 60 years, Fannie Mae was a loyal and faithful member of Kimberly Park Holiness Church, where she served tirelessly in many roles. She was the church announcer and secretary, a trusted leader on the Mothers Board, and the Bishop S.M. Caesar Scholarship Coordinator. She presided over the Hospitality Kitchen Committee, leading with grace and warmth, and sang in Senior Choirs #1 and #2. Her heart for service extended to her leadership as missionary president, Sunday School superintendent, and head of the Sick & Shut-In Visitation Committee, as well as the Outreach Ministry, ensuring no one was left without care. Beyond Kimberly Park. Fannie Mae also served at Holiness Church of God (HCOG) with the same dedication. She held positions as secretary and treasurer for the NCANW North Carolina Association of National Workers) and as secretary for both the Missionary and Sunday School Conventions.She was an avid angler as well in her free time. Fannie Mae was a devoted mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband. Bell Cato, and her son. Vietor Carson. She was also preceded by her dear sisters, Helen Woods, Doris J. Harvey, and Sandra Woodruff. Her surviving son, Ricky Carson, continues to carry her memory with pride and love. She is also survived by her daughters. Karen Hines (Oscar of Winston Salem. NC, and Princess Pressley of Chapel Hill, NC. Fannie Mae's greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: A special grandson Reggie Cannady (Kim, Bailey, Kennedy Ann Edwards. and Ricky Jr.. along with a host of other grandchildren, nieces. nephews. and extended family who will forever honor her memory.
Her living siblings, F. Virginia Hampton, Bernice Poston, and Charles R. Carson will forever treasure the bond they shared with Fannie Mae. Fannie Mae Carson Cato was a beacon of faith, love, and unwavering dedication to her family, church, and community. She will be profoundly missed but remembered always for her servant's heart and the joy she brought to everyone who knew her. A public vieiwng will be held Thursday October 24, 2024 from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Friday October 25, 2024 at 11:30am from Kimberly Park Holiness Churcha and interment will follow in Gardems of Memory. The family will receive freinds at 11:30am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
