Jerry Reid Mitchell, 84 passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2026. A life beautifully lived his journey spanned from July 1, 1941, through May 17, 2026. Jerry was a man who embraced life with enthusiasm, dedication and a deep sense of duty A proud veteran Jerry served his country with honor in the United States Army from 1961 to 1966, including a courageous tour of duty in Vietnam following his military service, he remained engaged with the world around him, He possesses a sharp mind and a keen interest in politics, and he found peace outdoors working diligently in his yard. An avid Carolina Panthers Fan, Jerry also spent memorably autumn afternoons passionately cheering on his team. He was preceded in death by his sisters Gwendolyn Leonard, Betty Giles and Ellen Hairston. A brother Richard McRae Mithcell, parents Vecue Kiser Mithcell and Blanche Victoria Oaks Mithcell. He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years Catherine Mitchell and his children, Patrick Lemont Mitchell, (La'Tempis) Melvin Cole, Latranya Summers (Cecil). A brother Christopher Kimbrough (Claire) Cody Phillips. His sisters Mary Joyner, Emily Radar (Coleman). His grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
