Mr. Reginald Bernard
Scales
February 25, 1958 – April 12, 2026
I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith:
Reginald Bernard (Red) Scales, 68, transitioned for time to eternity on April 12 2026 at Trellis after an extended period of illness. Red was born to Laura
B. Scales and Oscar Lee Jones in Winston Salem on February 25th 1958.
He was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System and graduated from West Forsyth High School class '76. After graduating he briefly served in the US Army, and after returning home he began at working at Lucent Technology (formally AT&T). Red was relocated to Columbus Ohio where he stayed from 1988-2009. Red returned home due to declining health challenges. After returning to Winston Salem, Red resided with his sister Andrea and brother-in-law Rev. James Rowdy until his passing.
Red had a passion for life that was felt by everyone who knew him. He loved Washington Commandos football, playing the guitar, dancing, and most of all, spending time with his family. He was fun, loving, and truly lit up every room with his unforgettable smile.
Reginald was preceded in death by his wife Priscilla Penn Scales, mother Laura B Scales, father Oscar Lee Jones and brothers, Johnnie Scales, Michael Scales and Sister-in-law Margie.
Left to carry on his memory are his sons Reggie Penn and Aaron Penn.
Devoted sisters and caregivers Andrea (Rev James) Rowdy, Loletta Williams and Sandra (Jerome) Williams. Aunts, Imogene Scales and Sylvia Scales. He also leaves a special brother and friend Kelvin (Victoria) Astrop and the entire Astrop Family, along with a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews and Friends.
We extend a special thanks the staff of Trellis, Senior Services and Tab Williams for all their support, love and patience with Red during his illness.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 12:00 PM at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:30 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
